Everyone knows that diet and exercise are the steps to weight loss; but what about excess body fat that just won’t budge? When lifestyle changes are not enough to achieve the shapely results you desire, liposuction can help contour and re-proportion problem areas. More commonly referred to s ‘lipo’, this procedure has long been used to reduce fatty deposits throughout the body. It is often performed simultaneously with other cosmetic procedures, such as tummy tucks.
Areas Most Commonly Treated By Tampa Liposuction
There are fat deposits located all over the human body. While some individuals tend to store fat in specific, localized areas, others may store fat all over – even in the ankles or knees. Fortunately, liposuction can be used to reduce fat in nearly any area, including the:
- Arms
- Thighs
- Chest
- Back
- Hips
- Buttocks
- Waist
- Face
- Neck
- Ankles
- And more
Are You A Candidate For Lipo?
Only a personal consultation with Dr. Lohith Bose can determine whether or not lipo is right for you. However, you might be a candidate if you are a healthy, non-smoker with good skin elasticity and firm muscle tone. Ideally, you should be no more than 30 percent overweight or underweight at the time of your procedure, and you should have maintained your current weight for an extended period of time.
Lohith Bose, MD will assess your goals for the procedure to ensure you have reasonable expectations. He will also answer any questions you have about liposuction and ensure you understand the surgery will help provide contour and fat loss, but will not be an effective treatment for the reduction of cellulite or sagging skin. Keep in mind, also, that liposuction is not a medical treatment designed to address obesity; nor should it be considered an alternative to a healthy lifestyle. Instead, it should be complementary to a healthy diet and exercise in order to deliver optimal results.
What To Expect
If you decide to undergo liposuction, the procedure is likely to be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Very small incisions will be made in inconspicuous areas around the targeted treatment areas. A thin tube (cannula) will be moved in and out of the incisions, through which Dr. Bose will suction out excess fat deposits. You can opt to treat just one area of the body or several depending on your preferences.
The fat cells that are removed during liposuction will never grow back. However, Dr. Bose will only remove the amount of fat that is appropriate to safely achieve your goals. While liposuction is a slimming procedure, it is not intended to function as a weight-loss surgery.
Recovery
You will awaken from surgery with a compression garment designed to reduce swelling and expedite your healing. You may also notice temporary drains that allow excess fluid to drain from the surgical area. Although every patient is different, most will be allowed to return home the same day as the procedure.
Be sure to follow all of Dr. Bose’s instructions during the post-operative period. You will need to rest and care for the surgical area. Any discomfort you have can be managed using the medications prescribed to you by our office. Initially, the swelling that occurs after liposuction may prevent you from noticing your results. However, your newly contoured body will become more apparent in the days and weeks following surgery as the swelling subsides.
