Thigh Lift Tampa, FL

The thighs are often one of the first places to accumulate fat and one of the last to lose it. For some people, this excess fat can be a source of frustration and embarrassment. Even for those who are able to lose some of the fat, excess skin may persist and begin to sag or ripple on the inner or outer thighs. Fortunately, a thigh lift can help smooth and contour the thighs, as well as provide greater proportion and firmness to the lower body.

What Is A Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is a term used to refer to the surgical removal of excess skin and some fat on the inner and/or outer thighs. The procedure is designed to provide a firmer appearance and eliminate areas that sag or pull downward.

It is important to note that a thigh lift is not designed for fat removal. Although some fat may be removed during the procedure, it is usually minimal and only associated with the areas where excess skin is removed. Patients who are interested in fat reduction rather than firming and tightening might be better suited for a liposuction procedure. For those who have very fatty thighs and also suffer from sagging, liposuction may be recommended first, followed by a possible thigh lift a few months later.

What To Expect

Thigh lift procedures may be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Dr. Bose will make an incision either alone the groin line (for an inner thigh lift) or along the hip (for an outer thigh lift). Since many patients have outer thigh lifts at the same time as a tummy tuck, the horizontal incision from a tummy tuck can be extended along the hip for a neater incision. This area is typically located below the panty line to allow for discreet healing and scar visibility. Once the incisions are made, the skin is lifted and any excess fat and skin trimmed away. The supportive tissues are then sutured shut, followed by the skin.

Recovery

It is normal to experience some bruising and swelling following a thigh lift. This may persist for a few weeks while the body recovers. Most patients should not consider returning to work or other normal activities for 2 to 3 weeks, although Dr. Bose will provide instructions specific to your recovery. Be sure to follow all instructions for wound care, and avoid sitting during the first two weeks after surgery. You can manage any post-operative pain or discomfort with medication prescribed by Dr. Bose.

Are You A Candidate For A Thigh Lift?

Thigh lifts can be performed on patients who have experienced a significant weight loss, as well as those who have not. However, only a personal consultation with Dr. Bose can help you determine if this procedure might be right for you. In addition, patients typically undergo either an inner thigh lift or an outer thigh lift – not both at the same time. In many cases, only one procedure is enough to rejuvenate the legs. However, some patients may choose to undergo a secondary procedure to achieve their goals.

In general, a thigh lift may be recommended to non-smoking patients who are in good health and who:

  • Are bothered by sagging, loose skin on the thighs
  • Desire smoother thighs
  • Are unhappy with the appearance of the thighs following a significant weight loss
  • Notice changes in skin elasticity on the thighs
  • Desire greater contour on the outside or inside of the thighs
